BASIS
B.A.S.I.S. Program
Before & After School Intervention Services
MISSION
The mission of BASIS, in alignment with Southern Westchester BOCES mission, is to support the work being done in our component districts by providing services for the whole student. Through BASIS, we provide supports to enhance educational and social opportunities for students ages 5-21.
BEFORE SCHOOL INTERVENTION
This service is conducted in the mornings with providers being available to work before their scheduled work day (services must be concluded by 7:45-8:00am).
This service often requires providers to support a student and his/her family to prepare for school and attend for the day. Often the student may show signs of school refusal. A team approach to assessment and early intervention that involves family, educators, and community providers increases the probability of a successful solution to school refusal.
AFTER SCHOOL INTERVENTION
This service is conducted in the afternoon with providers being available to work after their scheduled work day (services must begin after 3pm).
BASIS providers who offer after school services teach, tutor, and assist students in meeting their educational and social skills goals. Ultimately, a provider will attempt to close identified gaps for a student based on the needs established in consultation with the home district and family.
PARENT TRAINING
During parent training, parents are offered a program that aims to support them in developing their parenting skills. The program teaches methods which allow parents to better support their children in developing and maintaining appropriate and expected behaviors at school and at home. Parents are provided with coaching and modeling by trained staff to foster skill development.
CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES (New Offering)
This service is conducted by a SWBOCES Liaison in the afternoon with providers being available to work after their scheduled work day (services must begin after 3pm).
Support school districts in managing wraparound services for student/ family (i.e. OPWDD, SPOA, etc)
