Principal Jonathan Remeny

Principal Jonathan Remeny Dear Rye Lake Lower Campus Community,

It is with great pride that I write to you as the new Principal of the Rye Lake Lower Campus! It is an honor to join this incredible school community, and I’m so excited to begin working with our amazing students, staff and families. This year, we’re especially excited to welcome the MD program to the Rye Lake Lower Campus. As the population of the campus changes, we’ll all work together to build a new school community where every student continues to feel supported, connected and empowered to thrive.

We look forward to a fantastic year ahead filled with new opportunities, meaningful connections, and continued growth. Whether you’re new to our campus or returning for another year, know that you are an essential part of our community. Together, we’ll build on the strengths we each bring, support one another through challenges, and celebrate our successes along the way. Our work will continue to be guided by the core values of respect, trust, teamwork, and a shared commitment to always doing our best. These values guide how we treat one another, learn together, and build a safe, welcoming space for all. We enter this exciting new chapter, with optimism, determination, and a belief in the power of community.

We’d also like to highlight the important work of the Southern Westchester BOCES Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA), which continues to provide valuable support and learning opportunities for families. Please consider joining SEPTA this year. A special thank you to all of the members and officers that do such important work.

We look forward to a wonderful school year!

  • Students enjoy Pumpkin Patch fun at Rye Lake Lower Campus

Students from the AIIM and MD programs had a fantastic time visiting the Rye Lake Pumpkin Patch! Each student selected a pumpkin to decorate and use for classroom activities before bringing it home. This hands on seasonal activity fostered sensory exploration, communication, and teamwork, all while celebrating the joys of fall together.

A heartfelt thank you to the Community Committee and Rye Lake staff for creating such a joyful and inclusive experience for our students, and an extra special thank you to Tricia Lynch for volunteering to pick up the pumpkins for our wonderful patch of students!

“Wonderful events like this would not be possible if not for the efforts of the dedicated staff members of the Rye Lake Lower Campus," Principal Jonathan Remeny said. "Their creativity, enthusiasm, and commitment to providing meaningful experiences for our students truly bring our school community to life. It’s through their teamwork and dedication that we’re able to create such engaging, memorable moments that support both learning and joy for our students.”

Rye Lake Lower Campus walks together for Breast Cancer Awareness

Students and staff at Rye Lake Lower Campus marked Breast Cancer Awareness with a spirited walk around the quad, wearing pink and bearing creative signs with messages of support.

There was a slight chill in the air and the changing leaves burst with color as educators led students past the classroom huts and up by the Decagon building, making two laps before returning to their respective classes. This was just one of a several such awareness events held across Southern Westchester BOCES Special Services campuses in October. The joy on the faces of students and teachers, aides and TAs alike was palpable as the campus came together for this important cause.

“It's inspiring to see our students engaged so enthusiastically in an activity like this, learning about what it means to show support for others in unity as a campus," Principal Jonathan Remeny said. "Thank you to our entire staff for organizing this very public display of compassion and empathy for others.”

  • Rye Lake Lower Campus students learn together making caramel apples

Students in Lisa Nadile's class were engaged in a Caramel Apple Activity on a recent Friday. Students sat and listened to directions that included our "Recipe," using a visual board. They responded to questions by pointing to pictures and using their "talker," then followed the steps that were modeled for them and enjoyed and some of them enjoyed eating their "decorated" apples. Students then completed a worksheet at the end of the activity asking about what was made and how they enjoyed the taste.
